Fiat Chrysler asks for approval for software updates to diesel vehicles hit with emissions irregularities by Spring 2018

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. have said they are hoping for approval for their proposed “software updates fix” for 104,000 of their diesel vehicles already on the road with emissions level manipulating software installed.

In May 2017, the U.S. Justice Department sued the car maker for using software that broke U.S. emissions rules in a number of their vehicles. Whilst stopping short at labelling the software to be an illegal so-called “defeat devices” like those found in Volkswagen vehicles, Fiat Chrysler was thought to be using similar technology that ultimately had a very similar effect.

Australian judge orders Volkswagen to explain why emissions “defeat devices” were installed in their cars

A federal court judge in Australia has reportedly condemned Volkswagen for giving what they deemed as insufficient answers as to why they decided to install so-called “defeat devices” into cars before selling them all over the world.

The Judge also wanted company executives to expect to be called into Court to offer an explanation.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and law firms are currently suing Volkswagen for selling thousands of cars containing the alleged devices, with some 100,000 owners bringing claims against the major automaker in Australia.

London’s toxic air and how excessive diesel emissions are making it worse

Read any book about Victorian London and it’ll likely mention the smog that enveloped one of the greatest cities in the world. The Great smog of 1952 choked residents, halted business and killed animals. You would think that with the drastic increase in technological development, we would be living in a world free of air pollution, and with companies like Volkswagen promising “Clean Diesel” technology, we were hopeful of a better future.

That was until we realised their ‘eco-friendly’ vehicles were far more harmful than people thought.

Today, air pollution is still a major concern for Londoners with the capital being densely packed with 8.6 million inhabitants. Compared to the average of 1,010 people per square mile in the rest of the country, London has an incredible 13,410 people per square mile. The bustling city is cramped with high-rise buildings and traffic – lots of traffic.

With such a high density of people, pollution is a major problem.
