Volkswagen’s focus on pay rises for bosses is a slap in the face for emissions scandal victims, who continue to be refused compensation in England and Wales. Although Matthias Mueller was recently replaced, it didn’t stop VW increasing his already generous pay packet by around 40% last year, while leaving the victims of the “dieselgate” scandal without a penny.
VW has also boasted of brighter profits recently as well, and when you consider the refusal to compensate emissions scandal owners in England and Wales, it’s a slap in the face for victims in my view.

Will Volkswagen settle the emissions claims against them on the eve of trial?
In the UK and Europe, VW is refusing compensation to owners affected by their “dieselgate” scandal, despite the huge settlements they have agreed to in the US. Earlier this year, VW settled another case that was set for trial, and they reportedly did it on the eve of the case going to court.
Although we’re behind the US cases because the legal systems here in the UK are different, will we see a similar situation where VW settle the claims on the cusp of trial?

The recent court ruling that can allow German towns and cities to ban diesel vehicles was another example that attitudes are shifting as people are more aware of what automakers like Volkswagen are responsible for.
VW used cheat devices in around 11 million of their vehicles worldwide, and they did it (we assume) to allow their vehicles to pass emissions testing yet pollute more lethal NOx.
In our view, they put profits before people and they deserve to be punished. This latest buyback scheme in Germany, although limited, is one way they can help consumers affected by German law changes, and they should apply it universally for all consumers affected by the Emissions Scandal!

According to Unearthed, Greenpeace UK’s award-winning journalism project, the European “fix” for vehicles affected by the “dieselgate” scandal is nowhere near as effective as the US version.
As many of you already know,Volkswagen has offered compensation packages, buyback schemes and paid huge amounts of money in fines in the US, yet here in the UK they claim they have not broken any laws and are defiantly defending the legal case against them.
The news that the “fix” is less effective is another concern for European consumers who are still being refused compensation.

With more than half of UK children said to be living in areas with illegal levels of air pollution, it’s clear why Volkswagen must be punished for their cheat device scandal.
When they decided to intentionally fit cheat devices into vehicles so they could pass emission testing but pollute more dangerous NOx outside of test conditions, innocent people have suffered. The next big hearing is set to take place at the end of March 2018, and this hearing may well trigger the deadline date for claimants to join the Volkswagen Emissions Action and claim their compensation as a victim of the “dieselgate” scandal.
The court will normally set the final date, and if you miss the deadline, you may be unable to claim any compensation at all. Having been involved in previous actions where some people simply left it too late, they ended up being unable to claim tens of thousands of pounds in compensation.
