VW’s Alleged Violation of EU Consumer Directives

In the midst of all the tension surrounding the Volkswagen Emissions Scandal, fresh claims have been made that VW has violated two EU Consumer Directives – specifically, the Consumer Sales and Guarantees Directive, and the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive – in 20 European countries.

The first directive is put in place to prevent companies like VW from exaggerating environmental claims when marketing their products. This is, arguably, exactly what VW did when they marketed the vehicles as “green” that instead had “defeat devices” installed in them. Their ‘false advertising’ was used for seven years or so with suggestions of their diesel engines being “clean diesel” engines.

Volkswagen’s commitment to settlement in the U.S. continues to anger UK victims!

Right now, we’re acting for thousands of people affected by the Volkswagen Emissions Scandal here in the UK. We’re confident we will win the cases, but, at the moment, Volkswagen is trying to dispute responsibility for paying people.

Obviously this is totally unfair; especially when you look at their progress in the U.S. where settlement packages are being negotiated.

We’re working with international lawyers and keeping up with progress across the pond, and its only serving to anger the UK victims who should receive compensation as well.

Volkswagen sales slump in Ireland in wake of Emissions Scandal

July is an important month for car sales in Ireland, as it is the time of year when consumers look to upgrade their cars. The Central Statistics Office (CSO) released figures last month that showed an annual increase of 5.5% for car sales in Ireland.

It showed the steady rise in demand from the same time in 2015 for brands such as Audi, increasing sales by 17%, and Mercedes by 36%. Land Rover also saw an increase in sales last month compared to 2015 figures.

But Volkswagen sales are dropping in the wake of one of the biggest auto industry scandals the world has ever seen.

Now, the South Korean Chief of Audi Volkswagen has been summoned over the emissions scandal by State Prosecutors.

They are doing a great deal more than our own government as we continue to fight for thousands of people affected here in the UK as part of our rapidly growing legal action.

Lower Saxony has no plans to sue Volkswagen

Lower Saxony is Volkswagen’s second largest shareholder, and reportedly has no plans to sue the German carmaker for damages following the emissions scandal. Lower Saxony has a veto power on Volkswagen’s supervisory board and has a fifth of voting rights as well.

Prime Minister Stephan Weil believes there is currently no legal basis to make a claim, so “as a result there are no plans for a lawsuit.”

This news came not long after the state of Bavaria announced they will be suing Volkswagen, making them the first regional government in the home country of Volkswagen to make a claim.

Canadian Volkswagen owners demand settlement over emission scandal

Between 2009 and 2015 Volkswagen installed software on models which allowed them to cheat pollution testing, making their cars appear more environment friendly. The software, aka as ‘defeat devices’, allowed the cars to pass emissions tests by switching on the emissions control software when under test conditions. When the car was not being tested, the software was switched off, and the cars emitted up to 40 times more nitrogen oxide.

Only certain models were fitted with the defeat device, but it is thought around 11 million cars had the device installed over the six year period.

The German car makers are offering US car owners up $10,000 each in compensation; but so far, they are yet to offer deals to any other countries.

We represent thousands of victims here in the UK as we fight for justice and compensation – and we stand by our Canadian friends who are also seeking justice as victims of the scandal.

Volkswagen working with California Air Resources Board to avoid U.S. “buy back”

Volkswagen and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) are looking into testing different hardware and software that may help Volkswagen not have to buy back hundreds of thousands of diesel cars sold in the United States that were installed with defeat devices to cheat emissions testing.

CARB are working with the German car maker to see whether there are any fixes that could allow Volkswagen to fix its effected diesel engines in order to help them reduce the financial damage that the company would face. But this still may not be enough to appease disgruntled owners, or help to preserve Volkswagen’s reputation since being tarnished by the emissions scandal.

It’s not getting any easier for the Volkswagen Group…

We already act for thousands of UK victims of the scandal, and we already have reports from experts, and from our own clients, about the adverse affects that the recall is having, and is going to have, on vehicles.

Yet despite this news, they are still refusing to pay compensation to UK victims!

Campaign Group calls for 30 “dirty diesel” models to be investigated for alleged emissions cheating

The breaking of the Volkswagen Emissions Scandal has naturally resulted in other car makers coming under the spotlight for allegedly bending or breaking the rules for emissions testing. Several other manufactures have already been accused by regulators, but independent research conducted by a transport and environment campaign group suggests the scandal is very wide indeed.

It is claimed that some 30 more “dirty diesel” vehicles have produced “suspect” results, with evidence of some allegedly employing defeat devices as well.
