Jaguar Land Rover Emissions

The extensive Jaguar Land Rover CO2 emissions recall is said to affect 44,535 vehicles. Excessive Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions has been identified by the Vehicle Certification Agency during routine testing. Test results indicated that the models affected fail to consistently achieve the certified levels of CO2.

Jaguar Land Rover has reported the findings to the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency), and a suitable fix will now need to be agreed and implemented. The European Commission's alert system reportedly said that the affected vehicles "may emit excessive levels of CO2 and may not conform with the certified condition".

Jaguar and Land Rover owners are set to be contacted for repairs and software updates to be carried out by authorised dealers and garages. The fix is said to be offered free-of-charge, but it is understood that the changes could have an impact on the performance of the vehicles, and some models may require new tyres to be fitted.

In 2013, the two separate companies merged together to form Jaguar Land Rover Limited; Britain's largest carmaker. The recall affects both Jaguar and Land Rover models, and we've included a list of the affected models below.

How Will Vehicles Affected By The Jaguar Land Rover CO2 Emissions Recall Be Affected?

It is not yet known precisely how the vehicles involved in the Jaguar Land Rover CO2 emissions recall may be affected. We understand that Jaguar Land Rover has said that owners may experience a difference in the performance of their vehicle. Petrol owners may find the stop/start function operating at lower vehicle temperatures.

It is a known problem that high-performance vehicles can produce more dangerous emissions like CO2. If the repairs and software updates lead to less CO2 being produced, it may be that vehicles will suffer from changes such as reduced acceleration.

In a statement, Jaguar Lands Rover said:

“Affected vehicles are being rectified to ensure the correct CO2 performance is dependably achieved. The modifications made to affected vehicles will be made free of charge and every effort will be made to minimise inconvenience to the customer during the short time required for the work to be carried out.”

This statement does not, however, address the specific concerns that some owners may have in relation to the impact that the recall will have on their vehicle. In addition to the above statement, we understand that the manufacturer has acknowledged that some owners may experience differences.

If it is the case that the recall will adversely affect models, compensation may be owed to the potentially tens of thousands of owners who are affected. Another key issue in the recall is whether car tax will be affected. At this early stage, we simply do not know.
