Several other manufactures have already been accused by regulators, but independent research conducted by a transport and environment campaign group suggests the scandal is very wide indeed.<\/p>\n<p>It is claimed that some 30 more &#8220;dirty diesel&#8221; vehicles have produced &#8220;suspect&#8221; results, with evidence of some allegedly employing defeat devices as well.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nIt has to be pointed out that the testing regimes used are very standardised and can easily allow for rules to be &#8220;bent&#8221; or &#8220;cleverly utilised&#8221; for legitimate reasons. The question though is whether manufactures are intentionally using &#8220;excuses&#8221; available to them to justify any alleged method of passing emission testing with vehicles going on to emit far higher pollutants in real world conditions.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s all speculation at this stage, and we can only relay the information from the research to you.<\/p>\n<p>The three methods identified to allow far higher real-world emissions are:<\/p>\n<div class=\"well\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Thermal windows<\/strong>: a period where manufactures can decrease emissions management to prevent damage to parts from condensation;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hot-restarts<\/strong>: where unusually higher emissions occur when the engine is hot (given that testing is from a cold-start engine) which manufactures say is normal, but campaigners dispute;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Shut-offs<\/strong>: where emissions management systems simply switch off after a certain period of time, which was the Fiat 500X 2.0 MJT that we blogged about recently ourselves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>The research says that &#8220;thermal-windows&#8221; and \/ or &#8220;hot-restarts&#8221; applied in the following models:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-lg-6 col-md-6 col-sm-6 col-xs-12 list-group\">\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">BMW 216d Gran Tourer<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Citroen C4 Picasso 1.6 BlueHDi<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Dacia Sandero 1.5 dCi<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Ford C-Max TDCi<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Ford Focus 1.5 TDCi<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Honda CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Hyundai i20 1.1 CRDi<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Jaguar XE 2.0d<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Kia Sportage 1.7 CRDi<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Mazda 6 2.2 diesel<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Mercedes-Benz A180d and A200d<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Mercedes-Benz S350 Bluetec<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Mercedes-Benz V250d<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Nissan Qashqai 1.6 dCi<\/a>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-lg-6 col-md-6 col-sm-6 col-xs-12 list-group\">\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Peugeot 5008 1.6 BlueHDi<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Porsche Macan S Diesel<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Range Rover Evoque 2.0 TD4<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Renault Captur 1.5 dCi<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Renault Megane 1.5 dCi<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Renault Kadjar 1.5 and 1.6 dCi<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Renault Espace 1.6 dCi<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Skoda Octavia 1.6 TDI<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Suzuki Vitara 1.6 DDiS<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Toyota Avensis 2.0 D-4D<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Vauxhall Mokka 1.6 CDTi<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Vauxhall Zafira 1.6 CDTi<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 CDTi<\/a><br \/>\n \t<a href=\"#\" class=\"list-group-item\">Volvo V60 D3<\/a>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><small>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motoringresearch.com\/car-news\/not-just-vw-30-dirty-diesels-accused-emissions-cheating\">motoringresearch.com\/car-news\/not-just-vw-30-dirty-diesels-accused-emissions-cheating<\/a><\/small><\/p>\n<h2>Will this mean more claims?<\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s too early to tell, and we have to stress again that there is a fine line between what is seen as breaking the rules, and what is seen as perhaps &#8220;bending&#8221; the rules for seemingly legitimate reasons. Manufactures are allowed to employ &#8220;thermal-windows&#8221; and the argument about &#8220;hot-starts&#8221; resulting in higher emissions is a long standing one.<\/p>\n<p>The key is whether the use of &#8220;thermal-windows&#8221; has been used specifically to manipulate emissions results, and \/ or whether the difference between &#8220;hot-starts&#8221; and &#8220;cold-starts&#8221; is being manipulated by software in the emissions controls systems.<\/p>\n<p>One thing we know for sure is that the automotive industry is going to be closely scrutinised for a long time in the wake of the Volkswagen Emission Scandal where 11 million vehicles worldwide were fitted with emissions cheating software.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The breaking of the Volkswagen Emissions Scandal has naturally resulted in other car makers coming under the spotlight for allegedly bending or breaking the rules for emissions testing.
