{"id":1415,"date":"2018-07-05T16:30:22","date_gmt":"2018-07-05T15:30:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.caremissionslawyers.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1415"},"modified":"2018-07-04T18:49:27","modified_gmt":"2018-07-04T17:49:27","slug":"martin-winterkorn-court-summons-in-germany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.caremissionslawyers.co.uk\/blog\/martin-winterkorn-court-summons-in-germany","title":{"rendered":"Martin Winterkorn court summons in Germany"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former VW CEO, Martin Winterkorn, has reportedly received a court summons in Germany to testify in relation to a legal action for compensation.<\/p>\n<p>The legal action is understood to be relating to shareholders who are claiming damages from Volkswagen over the \u201cDieselgate\u201d emissions scandal.<\/p>\n<p>According to reports, 28 others are also facing questions, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caremissionslawyers.co.uk\/blog\/audi-boss-rupert-stadler-arrest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>recently-arrested Audi boss, Rupert Stadler<\/strong><\/a>, and Bosch CEO, Volkmar Denner.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><strong><u>Martin Winterkorn court summons: a big move<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Martin Winterkorn court summons is a big move. A number of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caremissionslawyers.co.uk\/blog\/interpol-arrest-warrants-5-former-vw-executives\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>VW bosses have avoided facing criminal charges<\/strong><\/a> in the US as a result of Germany\u2019s extradition laws, and although the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caremissionslawyers.co.uk\/blog\/the-rupert-stadler-criminal-investigations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>recent arrest of Rupert Stadler<\/strong><\/a> was a welcome move as part of efforts to punish the people who are truly responsible for the diesel crisis, it\u2019s clear to us that there are many more who need to face the music in court.<\/p>\n<p>Winterkorn, who resigned just days after the Volkswagen Emissions Scandal hit the press, has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caremissionslawyers.co.uk\/blog\/former-volkswagen-ceo-martin-winterkorn-charged\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>formally indicted and charged in the US with fraud and conspiracy<\/strong><\/a>; but, unless he gives himself up, or finds himself caught in a country that has extradition laws with the US, he can avoid justice and hide away in Germany.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, the fact that Martin Winterkorn has received a court summons is a welcome move, although we recognise that it\u2019s a part of a civil case, and we really need to see him facing criminal charges as well in our view.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>VW finally admitted fault: crimes must now be punished<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>After years of denying legal responsibility here in the UK, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caremissionslawyers.co.uk\/blog\/volkswagen-admits-responsibility-for-diesel-crisis-and-fined-e1bn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>VW finally admitted responsibility for the diesel crisis<\/strong><\/a> in Germany and agreed to pay a heavy fine.
